Meet Mildred

Meet Mildred… She’s not that pretty to look at but she’s a real goer and grower.

Mildred is my sourdough starter and although she’s only a youngster – less than six weeks old – so far she’s proving a real star.

I’ve had a go at making sourdough bread before but my past attempts have ended in failure.

My first sourdough starter although good at first ended in a rancid mess after a fortnight away and despite me lavishing more love and attention on it than is probably healthy it eventually ended up down the sink.

Three more attempts later and thanks to this marvellous book I have arrived at Mildred and as I’ve said she’s a cracker.

It’s early days yet but fingers crossed we will be producing bread together for years to come.
