So it’s May Day already, where on earth has the year gone? It only seems like yesterday that I was clinking a glass of fizz to mark the start of 2018 and now we’re almost half way through the year.
Anyway the beginning of a new month means just one thing to me these days and that is we are just a few days away from the latest Frome Independent one of my favourite discoveries since moving back to Dorset.
OK, so Frome is in Somerset but it’s just up the road from me and in the words of a certain television show judge it is fab-u-lous whenever you go but it is the first Sunday of the month that I love the best.
When I try explaining Frome Independent to friends and family I find myself describing it as a market but it is more than that.
Fabulous designer makers mingle with farmers to sell their wares with everything from unique pieces of jewellery to freshly baked loaves of bread up for grabs.
Then there is stall up on stall selling a marvellous selection of vintage finds at the flea market.
If food is your thing, it certainly is mine, then Frome Independent is a must. Street food fans can tuck into everything from rustic Italian stews and homemade pasta courtesy of Stefano and his lovely wife Jules to unusual sausage rolls from Frome based firm Little Jack Horner as well as countless other tasty treats including artisan coffee, cupcakes, Persian goodies and more – Yum.
And don’t forget to visit the town’s St Catherine’s area, which is full of independent shops and where on Independent day smaller traders ply their wares from suitcases along the middle of the quaint cobbled street – an absolute delight.
So the year may be speeding by but at least I’ve got Frome Independent, among other things to look forward to and I can’t wait.
* Frome Independent is held on the first Sunday of the month from March until December.
